WESTPORT — For eight local food businesses, these are their salad days.

That’s because, after a month of balloting in the “Great Westport Salad Contest,” they were chosen tops among eight specialty salad makers.

The contest, sponsored by the Westport-Weston Chamber of Commerce during March, attracted more than 1,000 votes cast among salads offered by 23 participating Westport food businesses.

The winners, according to the chamber, are:

Best Caesar Salad: Romanacci

Best Chef Salad: Joe’s Pizza

Best Cobb Salad: La Plage

Best Deli Salad: A&S Fine Foods

Best Greens Salad: The Porch

Best Make Your Own Salad: Parker Mansion

Best Mediterranean Salad: Manna Toast

Best Unique Salad: Capuli

Honorable mention: Calise’s

Each of the winners was awarded a plaque, according to Matthew Mandell, the chamber’s executive director.

The winning eateries will offer free examples of their contest-topping salads to eight voters chosen by lottery.
