
WESTPORT — As renovations continue for the new Big Y supermarket expected to open within a month or so at the Post Plaza shopping center, officials of the New England-based chain announced this week they are looking to partner with local food producers and vendors to help stock the shelves of the new store.

In what they’re calling a “Local Vendor Discovery Tour,” store officials are inviting farmers, food business and artisans from the Westport area to apply online to be considered as partners for in-store offerings.
“Our team is looking forward to learning about the Westport area and becoming a part of the community,” Michael P. D’Amour, president and CEO of Big Y, said in the call for local vendors.
“One way we do that is by partnering with local farms, businesses and artisans to showcase the products that are unique to the region,” he added.
The Westport store at 1076 Post Road East will be Big Y’s first in southwestern Connecticut, but the grocery business partners with more than 500 local businesses that provide over 4,000 products for its stores elsewhere, according to the announcement.
Among the products curated from areas nearby Big Y’s existing stores are: soda, artisan bread, chocolate, hand-crafted soap, coffee, honey, meat and deli items, fruits and vegetables baked goods, maple syrup and more.
“We’re committed to providing our shoppers with the finest, freshest and most flavorful local products that reflect the communities we are in,” Mike Cormier, senior vice president of Big Y sales and marketing, said in the announcement.
“These partnerships not only help local small businesses stay healthy, but they also allow us to provide the highest-quality merchandise to our
customers.”
