WESTPORT — “Theatre People,” a comedy about playwrights struggling to write a hit Broadway comedy, takes the stage at Westport Country Playhouse starting March 25.

The production, based on Ferenc Molnár’s farce, “Play at the Castle,” will be performed March 25 through April 12 at the playhouse, 25 Powers Court.

Written by Paul Slade Smith, “Theatre People” is “filled with romance, misunderstandings and surprises. The plot focuses on a married playwright couple who are trying to concoct a surefire Broadway hit, but create as much drama among themselves as on paper,” according to playhouse publicity for the show.

The play “harkens back to the kind of romantic comedies playhouse audiences have loved for generations,” Mark Shanahan, the play’s director and playhouse artistic director, said in the publicity release.

“At the same time, he’s infused this fast-paced, laugh-filled romp with a sharp, modern energy that makes it feel entirely fresh,” he added.

The cast includes: Erin Noel Grennan, Isabel Keating, Michael McCormick, Mia Pinero, Michael McCorry Rose and Rodolfo Soto.
