WESTPORT — “Straight White Men,” a play described as a comic satire, is the next production planned at the Westport Country Playhouse.
The play will be staged May 24 through June 5 at the theater, 25 Powers Court. For more information about performances and to purchase tickets, which range in price from $30 to $50, click here.
The premise focuses on a man who, on Christmas Eve, invites home his three grown sons for “pranks, Chinese takeout and gossip,” according to a publicity release for the show. “In between the male bonding rituals and conversations about money, work and love, they are forced to face their own identities in this alternately hilarious and thought-provoking satire.”
The play was written by Young Jean Lee, the first Asian-American woman to have a play staged at the playhouse. It is being directed by Mark Lamos, the playhouse artistic director.
The father will be performed by Richard Kline, perhaps best known for his role on the television comedy, “Three’s Company.” Other actors in the ensemble are Bill Army, Denver Milord, Nick Westrate, Akiko Akita and Ashton Muñiz.
“The play is a bold, exuberant, very funny comedy — and then near the end it builds up to a surprising dramatic punch that proves both powerful and moving,” Lamos said in the publicity release. “I’ve wanted to bring it to the playhouse stage since its premiere at Chicago’s Steppenwolf Theatre Company in 2017.”
