WESTPORT — “Signs of Compassion,” an artwork by Miggs Burroughs, will be on display through April at the Westport Book Shop.

The work features 30 lenticular images of people using American Sign Language for a word or phrase from an Emily Dickinson poem about compassion. It can be viewed through April 30 at the downtown book store, 23 Jesup Road.

A larger version of “Signs of Compassion” is scheduled to be exhibited in the lobby of the United Nations building in New York City at a later date, according to a publicity release.

Burroughs, a life-long Westport resident, is known locally for designing Westport’s town flag, the “Tunnel Vision” permanent display of lenticular art off Main Street and his role in the Artists Collective of Westport.

He also has designed logos, ads, brochures and websites for commercial and non-profit clients throughout Fairfield County, as well as a U.S. postage stamp, an Easter egg for the Reagan White House and four covers for Time magazine. One of the Time covers and the Easter egg are in the Smithsonian Institution’s collection.

Burroughs is the author of the 2012 book, “The What If? Book of Questions.”

He also has received a number of community honors, including as a Paul Harris Fellow from the Westport Rotary, the YMCA Faces of Achievement and as a volunteer of the year from CLASP Homes, Save Westport Now, First Night of Westport and STAR of Norwalk.
