STAMFORD — Once the person who curated the works appearing in the Mayor’s Gallery, Lina Morielli is returning to the organization with her own art on display.
Lina Morielli: Selected Works is on view through June 26th. An artist’s reception will take place from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 21st.
Morielli was the curator at the Mayor’s Gallery, located in Stamford’s Government Center, for 15 years. During this time, she curated over 90 exhibitions with more than 100 artists and arts organizations. She left the gallery in 2021, with current curator Ellen Gordon stepping into her role.
“Ms. Morielli’s displayed artwork, created during the early days of the pandemic delves into the subconscious, exploring the fragments of memory, the shadows of trauma and the fluidity of time in our current lives,” the Mayor’s Gallery said in a statement. “Her creations are shaped by both global events and personal experiences, resulting in a rich visual language filled with evolving symbols and markings. Each piece serves as a dialogue between her internal landscape and external influences. Over more than fifty years, her choice of materials and forms has transformed, mirroring the changing realms of thought, emotion and history. This ongoing process of self-expression highlights the dynamic nature of creativity, reflection and sometimes reshaping our lived experiences.”
Visitors can see the exhibition between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m., Tuesday through Friday.
Expanded coverage of Fairfield County cultural events is made possible with support from the Fairfield University Quick Center for the Arts.
