WESTPORT — Two large-scale paintings by Dionne Pia are featured in the artist-of-the-month showcase for November at the Westport Book Shop.

The paintings, titled “Brave New World” and “Galaxy,” will be on display during business hours through Nov. 30 at the downtown store, 23 Jesup Road. The paintings are available for purchase.

Pia often starts a painting with a one-word subject, and then searches for deeper meaning with imagery, according to publicity for the exhibit.

“The act of making a painting fuels my curiosity; curiosity is the gateway to empathy,” Pia said in the publicity release.

“In my work, I am deconstructing ideas of human rank superiority and staging a view that includes points of view from other cultures and other beings,” she added.

Pia, a member of the Artists Collective of Westport, has a BFA in painting from the Rhode Island School of Design, and attended the RISD European honors program in Italy.
