WESTPORT–Staples girls basketball will follow up its 67-32 dismantling of visiting Darien on Tuesday, with a trip to Greenwich to take on the Cardinals tonight at 7 p.m.
Both teams are 5-0 in FCIAC play; Staples is 9-0 overall and Greenwich 9-1 this winter.
In their most recent victory, the Wreckers were led by Freya Harvey with 20 points, three assists, five rebounds, three steals and a block.
Chloe Smith had 12 points, two assists, seven rebounds, two steals and a block. Emma Asiel logged nine points, five assists, three rebounds and a steal. Addie Talbott scored five points, had three assists, four rebounds and 10 of her team’s 22 steals.
Maeve Best scored six and grabbed a half-dozen rebounds. Sadie Katzner registered six points, three assists, a rebound and three steals. Marley Belzer logged five points, four rebounds and a steal.
The Wreckers jumped out to a 23-9 lead after one quarter and were up 36-16 at the half. They extended the lead to 58-23 through three quarters.
Staples has won each of its games by double digits, and most of them decisively, claiming all but three of their wins by 20-plus points; among the other three victories one was by 19 and another by 17. The 58-48 win over Amity of Woodbridge back on Dec. 20 stands as their closest contest thus far.
In addition to Greenwich, 5-0 FCIAC team Trumbull (10-0 to this point) also awaits Staples. Those teams will not meet until Feb. 10 when the Wreckers head to Trumbull at 7 p.m.
