WESTPORT — Leadership at the Westport Weston Family YMCA is changing.
Anjali McCormick, the YMCA’s chief executive officer for nearly four years, will step down Aug. 30, according to a Friday announcement. She led the YMCA through the organization’s centennial celebrations last year, and on arrival, helped manage the Y’s reopening amid COVID pandemic era restrictions.
The YMCA also was rocked by the June arrest of Brian Myers, a 29-year-old employee in one of its children’s programs, on a charge of possessing child pornography.
Glen Hale, the chief financial officer, has been designated interim CEO.
A reason for the leadership change was not given in the brief statement.
Juliane Sunderland, the YMCA’s board president, thanked McCormick in the statement and said that during her tenure she “helped grow membership to its maximum capacity, putting the organization in a very strong fiscal position, while developing new programs and services to address the evolving needs of the community.
“We thank Anjali for her commitment to the Y and our entire community, and we wish her well with her next endeavor,” Sunderland added.
In the statement, McCormick said, in part: “I want to thank the brilliant staff for their tireless effort to deliver first-class programming and providing an environment that creates memories that last a lifetime. I want to thank all of our amazing members and generous donors for welcoming me with open arms and for their continued support to this great organization.”
Hale, in his role as the Y’s interim CEO, will draw on “a comprehensive understanding of the Y’s operations, programming, people and culture,” Sunderland said.
“We are grateful that he has agreed to take on the additional day-to-day responsibilities on an interim basis as we conduct a search for our next CEO.”
