WESTPORT — A New York man, allegedly part of a team stealing merchandise last week at Ulta Beauty — a store repeatedly targeted by thieves the last several years — was taken into custody after fighting with police.
Jeffrey Charlot, 30, of Brooklyn, N.Y., was charged with conspiracy to commit third-degree larceny, interfering with an officer and assaulting public safety personnel in connection with the Dec. 14 incident.
Officers were dispatched to Ulta Beauty on Post Road East about 5:45 p.m. Dec. 14 in response to a report that a larceny was in progress.

Arriving at the scene of the recent larceny report, police were told that three men appeared to be working together to carry out the theft — while one was making a purchase, two others were stealing merchandise, according to the report.
While the two men suspected of stealing merchandise fled the store on foot, the other man sped off in a car, police said.
Officers checking the area after the incident spotted two men who matched the descriptions of the pair who fled on foot. But the men ran away again when officers tried to stop them for questioning.
However, one of the men — identified as Charlot — was detained a short time later. He allegedly refused to comply with the officer and attempted to assault the officer while being taken into custody, according to the report.
The two others suspects remain at large, police said, but detectives are continuing the investigation.
Charlot was held on $5,000 bond and taken the next day for arraignment at state Superior Court in Stamford.
