WESTPORT — A New York man has been charged for his role in a string of shoplifting heists — stealing a total of more than $35,000 in merchandise — from the local Ulta Beauty store over a two-month span last year.
Frank Greene, 23, of Bronx, N.Y., was charged Aug. 30 with second-degree larceny, six counts of third-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit second-degree larceny and six counts of conspiracy to commit third-degree larceny.
The arrest is the latest in a series of charges lodged by Westport police against three other men also accused of stealing large amounts of goods from the Ultra Beauty store at 1365 Post Road East.
Arrests in those earlier thefts — the first valued at more than $6,000 and the second at over $7,000 — took place in July and December, respectively, last year.
In the latest arrest, Greene is accused of being one of several men who hit the Ulta store seven times between May 15 and July 9 in 2021, filling bags or shopping baskets with large amounts of beauty products and fleeing the store.
The total value of those seven thefts was more than $35,000, police said.
Greene was identified as one of the suspects after an Ulta Beauty regional loss-prevention manager reviewed the Westport store’s video surveillance footage. The manager told police that Greene appeared to be one of the men involved in all seven incidents at the store during the two-month period, according to the report.
Greene was already known to Ulta officials for his alleged role in similar thefts at its stores elsewhere in Connecticut, New York and New Jersey, police said.
Based on that information and other evidence gathered during the investigation, seven warrants for Greene’s arrest were issued.
Greene was taken into custody Aug. 30 by Westport police detectives.
Greene was held on $500,000 bond and transported the next day for arraignment on the charges at state Superior Court in Stamford.
