WESTPORT–Luci Bango, Director of Health at Aspetuck Health District, announced Tuesday afternoon that Westport’s beaches will be closed Wednesday, July 22, 2026.

Bango said in a release that, “Based on the amount of rainfall Westport and Weston received today, we are recommending a preemptive closure of all swimming areas for 24 hours.”

Bango explained further: “In general, any time there is a significant rainfall (1.5 inches or more) within the last 24 hours the Health District will preemptively close the waters for swimming. Studies have shown that heavy rainfall typically results in bacteria levels that exceed State of Connecticut and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency recommended levels. In most cases, the water quality returns to acceptable levels within 24 hours and swimming advisories can be lifted.”
