WESTPORT — A Bridgeport man was charged last week with driving under the influence after an accident at a Post Road East intersection that sent another driver to the hospital.
David Tanis, 31, was charged April 24 with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and following too closely.
The accident occurred shortly before 1 a.m. April 24, police said, when a BMW driven by Tanis struck the rear of a Mazda at the intersection of Post Road East and Roseville Road.
The driver of the Mazda was taken to the hospital for evaluation of non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
The officer dispatched to the scene noticed that Tanis appeared unsteady on his feet, had a dazed look and that an alcoholic odor could be smelled on his breath, according to the report.
Tanis was asked to perform field sobriety tests, but was unable to complete them up to standard, police said, and was placed under arrest.
He was released after posting $500 bond and is scheduled to be arraigned on the charges May 5 at state Superior Court in Stamford.
