WESTPORT – Coming off a two-game winning streak, the Wreckers suited up with some confidence Saturday at home against Ridgefield. But the Ridgefield Tigers prevailed with a consistent offensive attack.
Early on, the lead switched back and forth, but in an unsettling omen, Ridgefield senior Captain Matthew Knachel scored a 2-point buzzer-beater to give the Tigers a one-point lead over the Wreckers.
While Staples did come close on several occasions, the Wreckers were behind at the end of each quarter. Ridgefield’s offense went on too many runs in the second half. Staples took the loss, final score 72-61.
Staples’ next battle will come Tuesday Jan. 11 at 6:15 p.m., away against the 3-1 New Canaan Rams. Until further notice, no students are allowed to attend the game as spectators.
