WESTPORT — The Staples High baseball team yielded just one run over its most recent trio of games, blanking visiting Trumbull 4-0 last Wednesday, shutting out host Stamford 8-0 Friday, then toppling host Waterford 10-1 in a non-conference clash Saturday.

In the win over Trumbull, pitcher Hiro Wyatt and Nick Porzio combined on a three-hitter with 13 strikeouts. Jack Farnen had a double and drove in two runs.

Against Stamford, Chase Siegel and Kris Blanco combined on a five-hitter. Ethan Cukier and Wyatt both drove in two runs Jaron Kline and Wyatt each had multiple hits.

Chris Zajac allowed one hit and one run in four innings of work. The Wreckers collected a dozen hits. Kline, Holden Caney and Wyatt all hit home runs. Wyatt, Dave Gervasio, Kline and Kai Nee all had multiple hits, with Wyatt leading the way going 3-for-4.

The Wreckers have had hot bats of late and the pitching has been stellar for the most part.

Prior to a 7-0 loss to Fairfield Warde on May 1, Staples blanked Wilton 2-0 and edged Darien 2-1 to close out the month of April.

In the Darien game, Siegel fanned six batters. Farnen drove in both runs, with a sacrifice fly and a bases loaded hit by pitch to snap a 1-1 tie in the seventh inning.

Staples is back in action at 4 p.m. Monday, May 8, visiting Bridgeport Central.
