STAMFORD — A stalwart defense and high-flying offense led by junior quarterback Caleb Smith, who threw four touchdown passes and ran for another, led the Staples football team to a 42-7 victory at Stamford on Saturday afternoon.

The Wreckers improved to 5-1 this fall.

Senior receivers Tyler Clark and James Hillhouse had big days with multiple receptions and each catching a TD pass.

Junior running back Alex Fiala had a rushing score. Senior Mike Nealon had a TD reception on the opening drive of the game.

Nealon led a very stingy defense that kept Stamford’s offense off balance all game.
