WESTPORT — The Staples High field hockey team on Thursday gave Coach Ian Tapsall his most lopsided win against Wilton in his eight years with the team.

Everything — offense, defense and goaltending — clicked from start to finish in a 7-0 triumph over the visiting Warriors.

Goaltender Paige Knesich made six saves for the shutout.

Tyla Ozgen scored twice and Alex Hackett, Sofia Fidalgo, Mary Stevens, Storey Ahl and Leah Larit also scored. Fidalgo, Ozgen, Ahl and Hackett all had assists.

The Wreckers were coming off a trip to the Proving Grounds in Conshohocken, Pa., last weekend.

Staples was originally scheduled to take on a team from Fairfax, Va., but played Ridge High of New Jersey, and came away with a 2-1 win.

Caroline Roschen and Stevens found the net and Hackett and Ahl had assists in that match.

The Wreckers also faced Gwynedd Mercy Academy of Pennsylvania and fell 2-1. Ozgen was set up by Stevens for the lone goal.

The Wreckers, 7-1 overall, remain unbeaten in state play as they head into Saturday’s scheduled visit to Norwalk’s Brien McMahon at 11 a.m. (Game schedules are subject to change; click for the latest CIAC updates.)
