WESTPORT — It’s annual sign that springtime is afoot in Westport:

The Minute Man Race, hosted by the Westport Young Woman’s League.
In its 46th year, the Minute Man Race — featuring 10K and 5K courses, as well fun runs for youngsters — will take place Sunday, April 27. All of the events are scheduled to get underway shortly after 8 a.m. at Compo Beach.
Net proceeds from the activities support the Westport Young Woman’s League grants programs, which since 1956 has distributed more than $4.3 million to community causes since 1956, according to the group’s website.
About 1,300 people are expected to participate.
Because of the large field of runners, police warn drivers and neighborhood residents along the race course, including several streets in the Compo Beach area, to expect heavy foot traffic until about 11 a.m. Sunday.
The streets will remain open for the duration of the races, but police said motorists should expect delays and to proceed with caution.
