WESTPORT-Over 50 Staples soccer alumni and current players — spanning half a century of history — worked up a Thanksgiving appetite Thursday morning at Wakeman Field.

The annual Turkey Bowl game — a series of small-sided matches, with plenty of talent jammed onto adjacent fields — drew alumni and parent spectators too. Among the crowd: Randy Ringer ’67. He did not play — but his son, a former high school star in New Hampshire, did. So did Randy’s brother-in-law Todd Champagne ’94, who traveled the furthest distance. He’s a private chef in northern California, and owns a food company there.

Dave Wilson ’75 — a former Staples captain, and standout at Dartmouth College — was the oldest player. A trio of varsity players — Zach Belzer, Luca Caniat and Alex Kuster, from the sophomore Class of ’25 — were the youngest.

The event was a fundraiser for the Albie Loeffler Scholarship  Fund.
