WESTPORT — There was no winner as the Staples and Greenwich girls soccer teams faced off in their season finale Saturday.
But when the teams compete again Tuesday, there will be a victor. No. 2 Staples will host No. 7 Greenwich in the FCIAC Tournament quarterfinals at Wakeman Field, starting at 3:30 p.m., in a rematch of Saturday’s 2-2 tie. (Game schedules are subject to change; click for the latest updates.)
On Saturday, Katie Fitzgerald and Natalie Chudowsky scored the hosting Wreckers’ two goals, and Annabel Edwards and Willa Shamie had assists.
The Wreckers ended the regular FCIAC season with a record of 11-1-2, behind only unbeaten St. Joseph of Trumbull. Greenwich finished 7-5-2.
A few days before the tie with Greenwich, Staples and visiting Ridgefield deadlocked in a scoreless match Thursday.
The Wreckers were coming off a 4-2 win at Westhill of Stamford on Tuesday. Emme Dorfman, Chloe Barnes, Addy Talbot and Reece Dearborn found the net in that match. Reilly Gullens had two assists and Dorfman and Kathryn Fontana had assists.
