NEW CANAAN — The Staples football team dropped its first game in five this season, falling 23-10 at New Canaan on Saturday afternoon.
The Wreckers jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first quarter on an Aiden Stubbs 30-yard field goal.
New Canaan scored a pair of second-quarter touchdowns and led 13-3 at the half.
Staples quarterback Nick Weil rushed 66 yards for a score to get the Wreckers within three at 13-10 in the third quarter.
The Rams put up 10 points in the fourth to clinch the win.
Weil completed nine of 19 pass attempts for 87 yards and a pair of interceptions. The Staples QB carried 11 times for 125 yards. Staples receiver Shane Sandrew had three catches for 38 yards.
The Wreckers will try to get back into the win column when they visit Stamford at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26. Staples returns home Friday, Nov. 1, when Danbury visits at 7 p.m. (Game schedules are subject to change; click for the latest updates.)
