WESTPORT — The Staples girls tennis team is off to a 3-0 start this season.
The Wreckers followed up a 4-3 nail-biter against New Canaan with 7-0 triumphs over Brien McMahon of Norwalk and Norwalk High — all at home.
“We’re off to a great start. Our team is really strong this year. We’ve added some very talented freshmen to the roster which positions us to dominate in the FCIAC,” Coach Jennifer Wider said following Thursday’s win over Norwalk.
In the win over New Canaan, freshman Liv Lazar and sophomore Aanya Gandhi won in the third and fourth singles positions. Doubles winners were the teams of seniors Rhiya Anand and Lola Lamensdorf and sophomore Dylan Lehrer and freshman Azita Vazhayil.
Against McMahon, singles winners were Lazar, Gandhi, senior Sadie Yanks and Vazhayil. Doubles winners were juniors Isabel Alfageme/Rachel Guzman, and seniors Bridget Menninger/Maddie Hendley along with senior Emma Kantor/junior Devyn Peffer.
In the Norwalk match, all sets were 6-0, 6-0 wins for Staples. Berkowitz, Lazar, Vazhayil and freshman Raleigh Sipkin were all victorious. In doubles play, Alfageme/Peffer, seniors Hendley/Menninger, and sophomore Hunter Rossetter/junior Sienna Sedlarcik all won.
