NAUGATUCK — The No. 3 seed Staples High girls soccer team posted its third shutout in as many Class LL State Tournament games, blanking No. 2 Glastonbury 3-0 in Wednesday night’s semifinals at neutral site Naugatuck High.
The Wreckers netted two goals from Natalie Chudowsky and one from Evelyn Chudowsky.
Staples advances to face top seed Cheshire, a 2-1 winner over No. 4 Ridgefield in the other semi.
The championship game is set for 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 20, at Hartford’s Trinity Health Stadium.
Coach Barry Beattie’s Wreckers used a strong defensive foundation and built from the back to seize the lead before halftime.
Natalie Chudowsky staked Staples to a 1-0 edge at the break.
In the second half Glastonbury, which like Staples lost just once in the regular campaign, started strong but Evelyn Chudowsky doubled the Staples lead with a great counter attack and finish.
The third goal came from Natalie Chudowsky as she drilled in a free kick from 20 yards out.
