WESTPORT — Rugby is a rough-and-tumble sport and, by stereotype, many believe it’s played only by men and boys.

Staples High School’s girls rugby team would beg to differ.

And as a way to pitch rugby to other girls interested in learning about the sport, the team on May 1 will host players from the Vassar College women’s rugby squad for a clinic. The free event is open to girls of all ages, according to organizes.

The clinic, featuring an exhibition and drills, will take place at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, May 1, at Staples High School, 70 North Ave. To register, click here.
