WESTPORT — The Staples girls golf team took a break from competitive play Monday to celebrate Senior Day with an intrasquad match at Longshore Golf Course.
The Wreckers head into their final seven matches ranked fifth among 11 FCIAC teams.
They fell to defending state champion Greenwich at home April 30. The next day, despite a solid effort, they lost an away match against Ridgefield.
On May 2, in Staples’ third match in three days, they beat Fairfield Warde by three strokes at Smith Richardson Golf Course in Fairfield. Sophomore Katelynn Mitchell’s lowest round of the season (46) was instrumental to the Wreckers’ win. — Andy Hutchison
