WESTPORT — In its final postseason tune-up, the Staples High field hockey team faced a playoff-level battle.

And the Wreckers edged host Ridgefield 2-1 in overtime to cap their season in style Tuesday.

Alex Hackett scored in regulation and Leah Larit netted the OT winner.

Staples finished the regular campaign with a sparkling 14-1-0-1 record and only one point dropped in FCIAC action and two additional points lost in a national tourney.

The Wreckers are seeded No. 2 in both the FCIAC and state.

Staples opens FCIAC Tournament action today (Friday, Oct. 27) when No. 7 New Canaan visits Westport at 3:30 p.m. The Wreckers beat New Canaan 4-1 during the regular slate. (Game schedules are subject to change; click for the latest CIAC updates.)
