WESTPORT – After a sluggish start that had the Wreckers down by 10 points mid-way in the first quarter, Staples trounced the Greenwich Cardinals to notch a win against a storied rival.

The Cardinals arrived in Westport with a ton of momentum and a 5-1 record. Senior captain Chason Barber had scored 20 points against McMahon and junior Logan Galletta had scored 22 against Ludlowe.

The Wreckers shook off the slow start. The offense was propelled by senior captain Ryan Phelps, who scored 30 points and played strong on defense.

Final score: Wreckers 74, Greenwich 60.

Staples will put its three-game winning streak on the line at home Monday (4 p.m.) against the 4-2 Danbury Hatters.
