WESTPORT — Staples boys volleyball team has won three straight matches, improving to 5-2 overall for the season.

The Wreckers followed up the highlight of the campaign so far — a 3-1 win at Darien on April 17 — with victories over both Fairfield high schools, Warde and Ludlowe, this Monday and Wednesday, respectively.

The victory over Darien was Staples’s first since the 2019 State Championship match. The set scores versus Darien were 25-17, 28-30, 25-22 and 25-11.

Pierce Brown logged 30 kills, 11 digs and five blocks. Setter Brian Divino had 40 assists and four kills to go along with 23 digs. Libero Jax Rosenberg had 21 digs.

Each of the wins over Ludlowe and Warde were notched in the minimum three sets.

The Wreckers lost to South-West Conference team Joel Barlow of Redding in five sets, and fell to FCIAC foe Trumbull in a clash that did not count in FCIAC standings earlier this season.

They will get a rematch with the Eagles when Trumbull visits Staples at noon Saturday, May 3. Staples and Trumbull are two of the best in the conference.

First things first: The Wreckers visit Brien McMahon of Norwalk at 4 p.m. Friday. (Game schedules are subject to change; click for the latest CIAC updates.)
