WESTPORT — Staples boys tennis team is advancing to the FCIAC tournament championship match, while the girls team’s tourney run ended after a hard-fought loss Saturday.

The No. 2 seed Staples boys squad defeated No. 3 New Canaan 4-2 in Saturday’s semifinal.

The Wreckers will take on No. 1-ranked Greenwich in the title match set for 2 p.m. Wednesday at neutral site Wilton High School.

Results of the boys’ win over New Canaan are:

Singles

1. Jackson Mountford (NC) def. Noah Wolff (S),  6-2, 7-5.

2. Julian Doshi (NC) def. Aleko Vergakis (S),  6-4, 6-4.

3. Sebastian Elizondo (S) def. Keck Maclver (NC), 6-2, 6-1.

4. Robert Jacob (S) def. Roger Rosales (NC),  3-6, 6-2, 6-3.

Doubles

1. Brett Lampert/Lucas Ceballos-Cala (S) def. Fox / Liebau (NC), 6-1, 6-1.

2. Mattie Guadarrama/Shreyas Gorre (S) def. Campo/Sieghart (NC), 6-3, 6-1.

3. Kieran Anand/Henry Grossberg (S) vs. Lee/Firneno (NC), did not finish.

The Staples girls team, which suffered a 4-3 loss to Fairfield Ludlowe in Saturday’s FCIAC semifinal, will look to rebound in the upcoming state playoffs.
