WESTPORT — Staples High boys tennis team started the season 6-0, capped by a 4-3 win over Darien on Tuesday, before suffering its first loss, 4-3, to Greenwich on Thursday.
In the contest against Greenwich, Staples No. 3 singles player Robert Jacob prevailed in his match after winning the first set 6-4 when his opponent retired with an injury in the second set.
The Wreckers had two wins in doubles play as the No. 2 tandem of Mattie Guadarrama and Sebastian Elizondo came out on top 7-6 (5), 6-4 and the No. 3 duo of Alekos Vergakis and Shreyas Gorre won 6-7 (5), 6-3, 6-4.
Against Darien, Elizondo won 6-2, 7-5 at second singles and Jacob prevailed 6-3., 6-4 at fourth singles. The top two doubles teams won with Brett Lampert and Lucas Ceballos-Cala winning 6-2, 6-0 and Guadarrama and Gorre coming out on top 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.
Staples has won a trio of matches by 7-0 scores, including against Weston, Brien McMahon and Norwalk High, and defeated New Canaan 4-3 and Stamford 5-2.
Other Wreckers who have posted wins this spring include Derek Hafiz, Noah Wolff, Kieran Anand, Henry Grossberg, Matt Darien and Jonny Greenspan.
Staples will visit Wilton on Monday and return home the next day to face Fairfield Warde — both at 4 p.m. (Game schedules are subject to change; click for the latest CIAC updates.)
