WESTPORT — The Staples High boys basketball team coasted to a 72-35 win Monday over visiting St. Joseph of Trumbull. 

Staples improved to 14-5 overall and 9-5 in FCIAC play.

Sam Clachko drained a trio of 3-pointers and led the way with 17 points. Ethan Cukier scored 11, Charlie Honig dropped in eight, and Cody Sale and Mason Tobias each scored seven. Caleb Smith added six, Chris Zajac had five and Adam Udell tacked on four.

The Wreckers drained seven 3-pointers, with Cukier, Sale, Tobias and Ryland Noorily each connecting once from downtown.

Staples closes out the regular season when Darien visits at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22. 

The Wreckers are in sixth place in the conference standings as the season winds down.
