WILTON — Staples boys basketball team got a balanced scoring attack in a bounce-back 60-40 triumph at Wilton on Friday.
The Wreckers, coming off their first loss of the season, improved to 10-1 overall (6-1 in FCIAC play). The Warriors fell to 5-7 (3-4).
Staples led 17-10 after one quarter. Wilton hung in there and kept the deficit at seven, 30-23, at the half, before the Wreckers pulled away in the second half.
Staples had four players in double figures led by Charlie Bowman with 15 points and two rebounds. Bowman missed only three shots from the floor and hit just a shade under 78 percent during the night.
Mason Tobias had 14 points, nine rebounds and seven assists; Sam Clachko also scored 14 to go along with eight rebounds, five assists and a pair of steals.
Matty Corrigan dropped in 12 points and had four rebounds, an assist and a steal. Dhilan Lowman scored five and had three rebounds, an assist and a block. Adam Udell contributed five rebounds, four assists and three of Staples’ six steals.
The Wreckers compiled 18 assists on their 23 field goals and hit eight of 10 free throw attempts.
Staples faces a tough test next, hosting Fairfield Warde (9-2 overall, 6-2 in the FCIAC) at 7 p.m. Tuesday. (Game schedules are subject to change; click for the latest CIAC updates.)
