STAMFORD — The underdog Staples High baseball team saw its hopes for an FCIAC championship end in a 3-0 conference semifinal playoff loss to Trumbull on Monday.

The N0. 3 Eagles blanked No. 7 Staples at Cubeta Stadium and the Wreckers will now have to wait for the start of the state tournament, after Memorial Day, to get back to game action.

Andrew Oppenheimer pitched well for the Wreckers, allowing three runs on six hits, walking three and striking out five batters.

The Wreckers managed just three hits as Jules Cicero, Jack Farnen and Luke Oakley all singled.

The Wreckers were coming off a 15-0 win at No. 2 Greenwich in the quarterfinals last Friday.
