WESTPORT–Staples and Greenwich – the top two picks to contend for this fall’s FCIAC championship – battled to a 0-0 draw Saturday. A crowd of 500 watched the hard-fought match at Loeffler Field.

Both team had chances in the extreme heat. Murilo Moreno, Reese Watkins, Will Adams, Jaden Mueller, Matt Jordan and Ryan Thomas keyed the Wreckers offensively. Bruno Guiduli anchored the defense.

Staples, now 2-0-1, hosts Danbury on Wednesday in another key FCIAC encounter. Kickoff at Staples’ Loeffler Field is 4 p.m.
