FAIRFIELD — The Staples field hockey team blanked host Fairfield Warde, 9-0, Tuesday, improving to 8-1 overall for the season and still perfect in FCIAC play.

Emma Larit, Emilie Russell and Tyla Ozgen all scored two goals. Alex Hackett, Eve Dolan and Leah Larit also scored.

Emma Larit had two assists and Ozgen and Storey Ahl both set up goals.

Goaltender Paige Knesich did not have to make a save en route to the Wreckers’ fifth shutout of the campaign.

Staples has a full week between games as the team prepares for a showdown with visiting Darien next Tuesday, Oct. 1, at 4 p.m.  (Game schedules are subject to change; click for the latest updates.) 

Staples was ranked 18th and Darien 22nd in the MaxPreps preseason rankings. Darien carried a perfect record of 7-0 into games with Norwalk on Wednesday and Warde on Friday.
