This article makes me so sad. I know all about the “teardowns of the week” in Westport. But this is incredibly disappointing. The home of the late Allan Raymond and his family in Westport for probably most of the past 99 years. This family served the Town more than any other. I loved to look across from Hillspoint and look at #70 … and remember what Compo Cove used to look like! Only cottage left … and now gone.
I grew up across the street from the Raymond family on Kings Hwy North and in the summer was invited to spend time at #70 . Those were pure, simple, fun days spent playing in the sand & water without a care in the world. How sad it will be another teardown! After 90 years standing on the sand holding its ground against nature, this is how it ends!
They tore down my grandmother’s house a few years ago. She taught kindergarten for 30 years at Greens Farms School. With every teardown we lose a bit more of Westport’s history. It’s very sad!
I watch the shows on TV that restore old homes. In Westport ,it seems, restoration is not an option.
