NEW CANAAN–The morning after her convention defeat to Sam Nestor of Weston for the Democratic party endorsement to run for the state senate’s 26th district, Lucy Dathan has announced she will challenge Nestor in a primary vote to take place in August.
Though Dathan lost the convention vote by a two to one margin, she did garner enough support to be allowed to file for a primary challenge.
“In the face of Donald Trump’s ongoing victimization of our communities’ most vulnerable, we need a Democrat on the ballot in November who knows how to win,” said Dathan in a press release.
Nestor told Westport Journal, “I have a lot of respect for Lucy and the work that she’s done. However, the delegates for the 26th district were loud and clear last night. . . . I am, of course, fully prepared for this primary race and look forward to the many conversations and discussions it will prompt. And I am confident that we will win in August.
The Democratic primary will take place on Tuesday, August 11.
