WESTON — Theresa Martin, an author and master beekeeper, will head a presentation this month on how home beekeepers can maintain healthy hives.

Theresa Martin, author of Dead Bees Don’t Make Honey: 10 Tips for Healthy Bees, will lead the event on Tuesday, May 26th at the Norfield Congregational Church in Weston. Visitors can arrive at 7 p.m. to socialize with members of the Back Yard Beekeepers Association, which is hosting the event, and Martin’s presentation will begin at 7:30 p.m.

Martin practices nature-based beekeeping, which prioritizes bee health by replicating a model of how bees survive in the wild, using integrated pest management, and providing strong support with low intervention. She has achieved a 99 percent survival rate in the 20 to 25 colonies she maintains in Kentucky as well as honey production that is twice the local average.

The event is free, and autographed copies of Martin’s book are available for $18. Visitors are asked to register in advance at backyardbeekeepers.com.
