WESTPORT — A woman convicted of helping her boyfriend kill his parents — the owners of a local refuse and recycling company — and trying to hide the crime by burying their bodies in Weston, was charged this week with failing to register with state officials following her release from prison.

Jennifer Valiante, 39, of Westport, was charged Dec. 18 with violating terms of the state’s Deadly Weapon Offender Registry.

Valiante pleaded guilty in 2018 to charges of conspiracy to commit murder and hindering prosecution in the case against her boyfriend Kyle Navin, who earlier pleaded guilty to the 2015 killing of his parents, Easton residents Jeffrey and Jeanette Navin, according to reports published in the Connecticut Post at the time.

The elder Navins, owners of J&J Refuse, were fatally shot by their son because they were planning to sell their business and disown him, according to the Post account.

Valiante was accused of helping Kyle Navin plan the homicides and assisting his efforts to cover up the crime.

Kyle Navin shot and killed both parents, in separate incidents, on Aug. 4, 2015, and later buried their bodies under debris in the yard of a Weston acquaintance, where they were found in October 2015, according to news reports.

Navin pleaded guilty to killing both parents, and was sentenced in April 2018 to 55 years in prison.

After Valiante entered her guilty pleas, she was sentenced to eight years in prison in August 2018, according to the report, but was released last February.

Westport police said they were notified Nov.27 by the State Police Deadly Weapon Offender Registry Unit that Valiante had failed to register, as required.

A warrant for her arrest was issued, and on Dec. 18, Valiante turned herself in at Police Department headquarters where she was formally charged.

She was released after posting $5,000 bond, and is scheduled to be arraigned Jan. 11 at state Superior Court in Stamford.
