WESTPORT – A series of stolen vehicle in town have led to Westport police officials warning residents to make sure they lock the doors in both their homes and vehicles.

In a statement released by police, Chief David Farrell said police responded to and investigated two stolen vehicle reports on Wednesday that involved  where vehicles were left unlocked with the keys still in the vehicle.

In one case, Farrell said there was a report of an attempt to steal a vehicle, and another involved a report of suspicious people running from an open garage and fleeing the area in a stolen vehicle.

Later, police responded to a hit-and-run motor vehicle accident at Easton Road and North Avenue, where it was discovered that one of the stolen vehicles crashed into another vehicle and fled.  No injuries were reported in that crash, but Farrell said that residents should keep their eyes open for suspicious activity.

“Those responsible for stealing these cars have no regard for your property or your safety,” he said in the statement. “Please lock your homes and vehicles, utilize alarm and surveillance systems, and report any suspicious behavior to the Westport Police Department.”
