WESTPORT — A New York man faces charges after stealing a check, changing the details and depositing it into his bank account, police said.

Curtis Miller, 27, of Wyandanch, N.Y., was charged June 1 with third-degree larceny, third-degree identity theft and third-degree forgery.

Police began investigating a resident’s complaint last Dec. 12 about the theft of a check. The check’s information later was altered and it was deposited into an unrecognized bank account, according to the report.

Investigators, using search warrants and shared data with other law-enforcement agencies, determined the bank account was controlled by Miller.

Police, after identifying Miller as the prime suspect in the case, issued a warrant for his arrest and on June 1 he turned himself in at Police Department headquarters. 

After Miller’s bond was set at $50,000, he was taken to state Superior Court in Stamford for arraignment, police said.
