WESTPORT — A 24-year-old man forged details on a check stolen from a Westport resident and then deposited it in his bank account, police said.
Zakee Wilkens, of Bridgeport, was charged May 28 with second-degree larceny, first-degree identity theft and second-degree forgery in connection with the incident.
On Feb. 2, 2022, a complaint was filed with police that a check stolen from a resident was altered and then deposited in an unrecognized bank account
That bank account allegedly was controlled by Wilkens, police said.
Gathering additional evidence via search warrants and data shared by other law-enforcement agencies, police said they were able to identify Wilkens as a suspect.
Wilkens was formally charged by Westport police May 28 in Bridgeport, where he was being held by that city’s police.
He was released after posting $50,000 bond, police said, and is scheduled to be arraigned June 9 at state Superior Court in Stamford.
