WESTPORT — A Trumbull man has been charged after an investigation into what police called a “domestic violence” incident last October.

Joseph Elyakin, 33, was charged Feb. 15 with disorderly conduct and second-degree unlawful restraint.

Last month, police began investigating an Oct. 21, 2023, incident in which Elyakin allegedly “assaulted [the complainant] and unlawfully prevented them from leaving their residence,” according to the report.

Since the incident, police said, the complainant had consulted with the Domestic Violence Crisis Center, which encouraged filing a formal police report detailing the allegations.

After police investigated the complaint, a warrant for Elyakin’s arrest was issued.

He turned himself in at Police Department headquarters on Feb. 15, and was released after posting $5,000 bond. He was scheduled to appear the next day at state Superior Court in Stamford.
