WESTPORT — A 68-year-old driver who crashed into a stone wall off Newtown Turnpike in June has been arrested.

Richard King, of Newtown, was charged Aug. 16 with operating a motor vehicle while his driver’s license was under suspension and failure to drive in the proper lane.

The single-vehicle crash took place shortly after 6 p.m. June 23 in the area of 192 Newtown Turnpike, when a car driven by King left the road and struck a stone wall, police said.

Officers at the scene found that King’s driver’s license was suspended at the time of the accident.

He also was a taken to the hospital to be medically evaluated in the aftermath of the incident.

A warrant for King’s arrest subsequently was issued, and he was taken into custody Aug. 16 after being stopped while driving.

King was released after posting $3,000 bond and is scheduled to be arraigned on the charges Aug. 25 at state Superior Court in Stamford.
