WESTPORT — A 48-year-old man described by police as an “irate parent” who confronted staff and the school resource officer at Staples High School last week, and refused to leave as ordered, faces several charges in connection with the incident.
John Alafoyiannis, of Westport, was charged April 19 with second-degree criminal trespass, interfering/resisting an officer and second-degree breach of peace.
Alafoyiannis, according to the police report, was “screaming” at Staples staff in the school’s lobby April 19, and at one point became so agitated that one of the staffers “put their hand up in a defensive move” to prevent Alafoyiannis from getting closer.
The school resource officer tried to intervene to defuse the situation, but Alafoyiannis remained disruptive, police said.
The SRO was able to determine that Alafoyiannis “was upset with school personnel and their handling of a custody issue,” the report states.
Alafoyiannis was moved outside the building where he continued to act “aggressively,” police said, and refused to obey the SRO and Staples staff’s requests that he leave.
He allegedly vowed to continue to return to the school until the issue was resolved, according to the report.
At that point, he was arrested and formally charged.
Alafoyiannis was released after posting $1,000 bond and is scheduled to be arraigned April 28 at state Superior Court in Stamford.
