WESTPORT — Heavy traffic is expected Sunday in the Compo Beach area.
Heavy foot traffic, that is.
That’s because more than 1,000 runners are expected to take to Compo area streets for the Minute Man Races, sponsored Sunday, April 30, for a 44th year by the Westport Young Woman’s League.
Activities get underway at the beach at about 7 a.m., and police warn drivers and residents in the area to expect congestion along roads used for the race courses through approximately 11 o’clock.
The Minute Man Races include a certified USA Track and Field 10K run and 5K run/walk, as well as “fun runs” for children that range from a 50-yard dash to a 1-mile run.
Warm-ups and race start times begin shortly after 8 a.m.

The event also will feature food trucks, music and other activities for families, according to organizers.
Proceeds from the event benefit WYWL charities in lower Fairfield County.
