WESTPORT — A Norwalk man was charged with driving while impaired after a motor vehicle accident in Parker Harding Plaza last week.

Jovan Lawson, 31, faces charges of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and failure to drive to the right in connection with the Dec. 17 incident.

Police were dispatched about 5:45 p.m. Dec. 17 to investigate the scene of a collision between a car driven by Lawson and an unoccupied vehicle parked in the downtown lot, according to the report.

An officer investigating the crash “immediately suspected” Lawson was under the influence of alcohol or drugs, the report states, and he was taken into custody at the scene.

Lawson was formally charged at Police Department headquarters, and released after posting $1,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear Dec. 28 at state Superior Court in Stamford.
