WESTPORT — The driver of a car involved in a head-on crash last week on Compo Road South has been charged with driving under the influence.
Betty Lentini, 78, of Westport, was charged May 9 with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and failure to drive in the proper lane.
Police were called to the scene of a two-vehicle accident about 9 p.m. May 9 in the 200 block of Compo Road South.
Both drivers were outside their vehicles when officers arrived, and although no one complained about injuries, police said, emergency-medical personnel were called to the scene as a precaution based on the extent of damage to the vehicles.
Investigators determined the car driven by Lentini, traveling south on Compo Road South, crossed into the northbound lane and struck a vehicle headed in the opposite direction.
Based on observations, officers suspected Lentini may have been under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and administered a field sobriety test, according to the report. Lentini failed to perform the test to standard, police said, and was placed under arrest.
She was released after posting $500 bond and is scheduled to be arraigned May 22 at state Superior Court in Stamford.
