WESTPORT — A Norwalk driver is accused of crashing into another vehicle after running a stop sign and trying to flee the accident scene last week.
Christopher Troy, 33, was charged April 22 with illegal operation of a motor vehicle with a suspended license, evading responsibility, failure to obey a stop sign and operating a motor vehicle without a license.
Police were dispatched about 4 p.m. April 22 to investigate a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Compo Road North and Evergreen Avenue.
The crash was caused when a vehicle traveling east on Evergreen Avenue failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection with Compo Road North, striking another vehicle that had the right-of-way, according to the report.
The driver of the car that was struck suffered “minor” injuries, police said, and was taken to a hospital.
The driver of the striking vehicle — identified as Troy — and his passenger both fled on foot, witnesses told police.
Officers, however, were able to apprehend Troy a short time afterward and formally booked him on four criminal offenses at Police Department headquarters.
Troy was released after posting $5,000 bond and is scheduled to appear May 23 at state Superior Court in Stamford.

I wasn’t home last Monday. But my neighbors were. Some heard the boom of the three-car crash at the blind corner of North Compo & Evergreen Ave. Another neighbor witnessed the car traveling “100 miles” up Evergreen before running the stop sign. People could have easily been killed. It could have been any of us who use that road every day.
We can’t stop people who drive like idiots on our roads, but the town can do far more to help slow them down. A speed bump on Evergreen Avenue – which the neighbors have asked for – would be an easy start. Then there’s State funding to correct blind spots like North Compo & Evergreen Ave, but the town needs to apply for that and have enough Public Works staff to get it done.
When it comes to spots like North Compo and Evergreen Ave., we don’t need to wait to finish another traffic study to start fixing problems we already know need fixing. That being said…it’s still worth everyones time to fill out the town’s Safe Streets survey which closes soon.. https://www.fhistudio-apps.com/westport-map/#/.
There are so many children in this neighborhood. Hoping we get the state funding to help this intersection I use multiple times a day with my two toddlers in tow!
