WESTPORT — Greens Farms Academy is seeking to build a new indoor athletic facility that would be attached to an existing one.
An application has been filed with the Planning and Zoning Commission. The project would need Special Site Plan and Coastal Area Management approval from the commission.
“The project proposes constructing a new athletic facility, attached to an existing sports facility at the Greens Farms Academy campus,” the application states.
The facility would have a 29,230-square-foot footprint, and increase the number of parking spaces “while maintaining the robust vegetative buffer along Maple Lane.”
A 5,930-square-foot service building will be demolished, the application states. It was built in 1970. Because it’s more than 50 years old, the town’s Historic District Commission will have to review it.

The 45-acre campus has 14 buildings, according to town records. The area of construction would be at the north end of the campus, nearer to Maple Lane than Beachside Avenue.
The private school has about 700 students, pre-K through 12th grade, who come from 23 towns in Fairfield and Westchester counties, according to its website. The school has 64 interscholastic athletic teams.
The application was just filed and does not appear on an agenda yet.
